365: Day 339 – Not giving in to consumerism

There are days like today when I don’t feel particularly inspired to write. I could discuss how I took a little initiative to organize my emails or how good I felt after cleaning one of the restrooms. However, I feel perfectly fine without having to write a self-congratulation post to myself. There is a personal project that I am working on that has been keeping me quite busy that I plan on sharing in due time.

In my spare time (when I’m not thinking about Sakuras 😂), I’ve been researching computers quite a bit. I’ll admit I want to get a new laptop, and I imagine how wonderful it will feel to unbox it and set it up. However, I have been very good about not allowing myself to do so. It’s interesting to see the difference in maturity levels between the old me and the new me. I bought the Macbook Pro I’m currently typing on because I needed a new charger for my previous Macbook Pro. I thought investing $90 on a charger was a waste of money on a computer a few years old, so I might as well spend $2,000 to get a brand new computer. I made a lot less money then, yet I didn’t hesitate to charge it on my credit card. Now I’m in a much better position financially, but I can’t bring myself to spend $1,000 on a Macbook Air because there’s absolutely nothing wrong with my current computer. Frankly, it is in excellent working condition. The consumer demons in me want me to chase after that immediate gratification that comes with buying the latest product.

To distract myself from lusting after the latest product, I have been making minor tweaks here and there on my computer (appearance, sounds, shortcuts, etc.) to provide new experiences within my computer that will freshen up my perception of my machine.
