I stopped running about 7 years ago and haven’t found the motivation to run again since then. I keep saying I’m going to start and never make it past a run or two. One thing I’ve been researching for a long time now is running watches. I bought a Garmin Forerunner many years ago and then returned it after I bought my first Apple Watch. I love my Apple Watch, but I never felt it lived up quite to the level of the Garmin watch. I remember putting on my running watch on work days and that put me in the mindset that later that evening I would be going on a run.
There are many reviews out there and comparisons that can elaborate on the differences far better than I can. So I’ll just say that my main motivator for finally ordering this is emotion and a good Cyber Monday deal.
A coworker this morning asked if I had bought anything for Cyber Monday or Black Friday and I defaulted to saying no, but then I told her about the watch and how I was trying to find ways to motivate myself to get out there and run. Usually, people will provide some generic motivational comment or reaffirm their belief in you. I was not expecting her to say “Well, you’ve managed to find the motivation to start playing piano again, I’m sure you can find the motivation to start running again.” It seems trivial, but it was enough to get me in a different mindset.
That was the first sign. The second was as I sat back down on my desk a picture popped up on my iPad of me and two friends at the San Francisco marathon in 2013.
That’s what brought me here. Back to an activity I would do when I had a running watch, was running in all kinds of races, and had better and healthier habits in general.
